Palmetto Beach Club Reviews

Mr & Mrs Bentley from London

My wife and I just got back yesterday from a 1 week holiday at the Palmetto Beach Club. It was so enjoyable we felt you deserved some detailed feedback !

We were uncertain about this holiday as the website pictures were a touch lacking and we had not done any dinghy sailing before. Our sailing experience has always been with larger yachts. But we were not disappointed. You are clearly not communicating the real value of the location and the friendly staff who run the Palmetto Beach Club. Yes “small is beautiful” but so is the idyllic location and genuine lack of commercialism to the place that makes it so relaxing and untouched. A “Little Turkish Secret” would be a much better description!

Our room was basic, but adequate for a couple planning to spend most of their time on the water. It was also kept clean each day with fresh linen. The bar area was excellent for socialising and we were always greeted with a welcome by the bar staff and restaurant manager when we took time out for a drink or two. Breakfast was Turkish style, no full English here. But by the end of the week I was converted to fresh water melon, hard boiled eggs and cheese to start the day. In the evening we were spoilt for choice when offered fresh seafood. This was put to the test one night when we requested off the main menu grilled Lobster Turkish style, that resulted in one of the best meals were have ever eaten ! Turbo the restaurant manager excelled himself in making sure we were well dined! We visited two other restaurants during our stay – both were disappointing in value and quality.

We had a personal welcome and farewell by the sailing team that made us feel quite special. Despite the age & fitness difference between us and them they handled and managed this very well during our stay. The sailing instructor team deserve recognition for their sincere interest in making sure we were a happy and safe during our stay. We also felt safe with them when taking to the water and appreciated the safety boat being nearby at all times. Tim Pritchard clearly has sound leadership and customer service skills –  and his team all have specialist areas of expertise that allowed us to pick their brains on sailing technique and improvement. The water is very warm and clear so a daily snorkel and swim was our first task of the day to wake up and prepare for sailing instruction. It should be noted that a good wind is only really possible during the afternoons. Mornings are better for kayaking.  A few one-person kayaks would have been welcome, rather than the 2 person version.

As for potential improvements:

  • Update your website with some better photos. Have attached some possibilities for your perusal.
  • Clarify with your public and employer  insurance cover exactly how far off the beach you are covered for and consider extending the buoyed safe sailing area for those guests who are clearly able to handle extended cruising in light winds, whilst remaining in sight of the safety boat.
  • More organised group activities under safety supervision on the water later in the day. Extended sailing beyond the safety area for all types of dinghy’s, and kayaks, maybe.
  • Some sailing theory lessons or hot tips early in the morning – with the instructors showing off their skills on the water.
  • Live music in the evening. Promoting this to locals and other visitors would make sure the increased bar venue taken would cover the cost of the band.
  • Some hammock style beach beds located in the shallow water. The ones owned next door were very popular.
  • Have some bicycles for guests who want to explore the coastline more for recommended snorkelling spots, or simply travel to the other side of the bay.

Our only criticism was the use of Monarch Airlines as your chosen flight charter who have a poor reputation for offering everything at a price- including headphones and comfortable seating. Thanks for including the in-flight meal – many passengers with other holiday operators starved.

Lastly, our 2.5 hour return bus ride to the airport arrived far too early. We had to leave the beach club at 9.00am and wait 1.5 hrs at the airport before we could even check in. A long day at the airport.

Overall were very impressed with this holiday package and feel keen to book another week at the same time next year. The right location, but just as important, the right type of staff to assist us and made our stay so enjoyable. So do give them our sincere thanks.

All the best, we will be touch shortly to book up for next year.

Spindler Family – Hertfordshire

Just a quick note to say we had a great holiday and SeaFarer surpassed our  expectations

I first went on Mark Warner in the 80s and have done MW and Sun Sail at least a dozen times over the intervening 30 years. They have both added so many other things I don’t want, and taken away much that we do, that they no longer represent value especially as their prices have gone up so much.

The back to basics and smaller venue for those looking for beach based sailing, was perfect

The staff were great, the transfer home via Corfu went perfectly. Please pass on our thanks to Sam, Alfie, Bella , Anna and Steve and of course to you and Chris for organising.

I would love to say we will use you next year, but although I have older teenagers (who thought it was best holiday ever), we also had a surprise addition with a new baby last year, and I definitely need a y/care facility, so will unfortunately probably go back to MW, SS or Neilson next year.

If you do add this facility, do please let me know and we are in. Older kids don’t want clubs, but we need to off load toddler for at least half the day, so both wife and I can enjoy sailing with the older ones and have time together.

It is not about having Kids clubs, just if you have childcare for under 5s, you open up the market to sailors like us, with young kids. It was no surprise that there were no other families with very young children.

I’ll post something positive on Trip Advisor and wish you and the company all the best

Rawlings – WOLVERHAMPTON

Hi Suzie, I phoned up on Tuesday and spoke to Jacques with ref to our holiday at Nikiana. I would just like to confirm what I told Jacques. The whole package was brilliant, the staff were amazing. So many times we have gone away and when the “reps” were needed either could not be found or unable to help. Sam (teddy bear) was a true ambassador for the company. his knowledge of the organisation and commitment to ensuring all his guests enjoyed their stay was a welcome change. Simon was eager to help and instruct and again went out of his way to make the holiday one to remember. While there Nick and I went on a 2 day training course for our ICC, the instructor Chris was excellent. He allowed us to make mistakes from which we could learn and instructed us to the standard which allowed us to gain our ICC, no easy task!! While away our wives were left to make the most of the “scenery”.  Again they were looked after with sun beds being carried down to area of beach the girls had chosen and umbrellas positioned perfectly for them. The staff ran a quiz night, arranged a B-Q and took the Kent group windsurfing and yachting with Swampy ( what a charactor a real laugh). Elaina the resort owner and cook could not be more hospitable. The resort was clean and tidy and the food was excellent. Due to government strikes the breakfast was limited to food which was not refrigerated due to proposed power cuts. The maid service was great the rooms were clean and by Greek standards exceptional, there were new crisp cotton sheets on the bed and a shower with hot water no matter what time of day it was.
I have say on  behalf of my party that this was without doubt the best flotilla holiday we have all been on. This may be down to the size of your organisation, but I think it is down to the people who represent you and their marketing of your product. Which brings me onto marketing, I did ask if we could buy Seafarer tee shirts but were told they did not have any. The lip barm was good, but not many people would notice that.
Once again thank you and all your team and hope to be back next year perhaps St Vincent!!

Aldred Family – BRADFORD-ON-AVON

I trust that you receive this as I am guessing your email address.  As a fail safe I have copied Iwona, who will I hope pass the message to you.

You may recall that we booked a week with Seafarer in Lefkas from Sunday 5th June. I am writing now to congratulate you and your team on a lovely short break. If I had to search for a criticism it would be that Monarch staff are totally devoid of any charm whatsoever but that is beyond your control. In every other aspect the week was outstanding. We were perhaps a little spoiled in that there were no other guests at the Beach Club last week, but the holiday was exactly what we wanted and more than met our expectations.

The accommodation was simple but comfortable and very clean. The location was idilic although sometimes a little too sheltered for a moderate and steady breeze. “Elainie” (I am unsure how to spell the name of our hostess) and her husband were most hospitable and provided very good food at extremely affordable prices. Lastly but very much not least was the enormous contribution made by your staff to the pleasure of our holiday . Sam and Simon were always helpful and eager to make our stay as enjoyable as they could. I was impressed by their conduct and the fashion in which they coped with the four of us with a wide range of age and of sailing experience. Simon was particularly good. His quiet and confident manner achieved huge success with both Valerie and Hannah. Valerie who hitherto hated even the mention of yachts and more so dinghies, was crewing the cat and using the trapeze with Simon’s encouragement and tuition. Phil, who previously could hardly stand on a windsurfer, was really competent by the end of the week and also confidently sailing the laser. Please convey our thanks to both these young men.
Well done and thank you Seafarer.
Best wishes, Baas
PS: I am considering booking one of your yachts for the same period next year and will be in touch.

Wren Family

Just wanted to dash off a quick email to say what a fantastic week we’ve just had at Nikiana.  The logistics went very smoothly, thank you for that, the beach club was in a brilliant spot, beautiful, traditionally Greek, Elina cooked lovely Greek food at very reasonable prices.  However what made it was the four guys running the club and sailing, Sam, Steve, Simon and Billy were brilliant, knowledgable sailors, great instructors, but laid back, nothing too much trouble and crucially fantastically patient with the kids.  My 6yr daughter was in tears on the way home at the thought of not seeing them again, and my 5yr old son hung off their every word and followed them around endlessly.  Cannot speak more highly of them.  I will shoot off an email to Seafarer singing their praises, but just wanted to let you know we all thought this was one of the best trips to Europe we’ve had and I look forward to booking with you again in the near future.

Ionian Beach Club Review, Ionian Flotilla Review

Green Family – East Sussex

We have just returned from a two week holiday with you, and would like to offer some feedback that we thought might be useful.

Your team at the hotel – Giles, Holly, Billy, Emily plus others are absolutely first rate and you have a great team there. Please do pass on our 100% positive feedback to them. Giles couldn’t have done more to make sure we were happy, and Holly and Billy were excellent. Nothing was too much for them and they were very good with our children. They all seemed to work about 18 hours a day and always happily! They were however rushed off their feet when the Bexley pupils came so if we had been at the start of our holiday we may have struggled to get use of dinghies/kayaks etc. Later in the week Matt the sailing instructor (new to Seafarer – ex RAF) came along and he too was excellent, a very good instructor but also excellent with the children and very pleasant company. He went out of his way to help us. I should think that you will be offering them all jobs next season!

For our sailing week, we left from Lefkada. It is not the nicest marina and there are a few issues there as you probably know and spending 2 nights there out of the 7 is not ideal, but I suspect you are limited in choice of marinas in that area. The boats varied in equipment and repair but we are realistic enough to realise that they are charter boats, but on the positive side anything that concerned us was quickly and efficiently dealt with. The beddng was quite old and worn, but short of buying new sheets that couldn’t have been fixed on the spot but is maybe something you could look at? Again, your choice of staff was excellent. John and Collette were absolutely fantastic and were always around, full of very good advice but not intrusive. They went out of their way to make sure we had a great time and that we enjoyed our sailing. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to anyone (and in fact already have!) so please pass on our thanks to them.

I hope this feedback is useful.

Turner Family – Somerset

I note of thanks from the Turners and Almonds who departed on 16th August on your Oceanis 43 from Poros.

The transfer company were great with everyone knowing what we were doing, where going to and someone to meet us at every part of the long journeys at airports, ferries, ports etc

We did 2 different second weeks and that was all sorted to.
Our flotilla around Poros, Hydra was fabulous, John the skipper was great, Becky and then Amelia our hostesses and Andy the engineer helping out to. The boat you chartered in for us was great and arrived 10 minutes after we arrived in Poros. All the extra features were great and fellow sailors on their smaller yachts a bit jealous of the outboard on the tender and autohelm!!!

Couldn’t fault the flotilla trip, beach party was amazing-kids loved it especially the midnight swim after wearing toga’s on the beach, Becky’s food was lovely.

The Ionian beach club was fantastic, great place, quiet but enough to amuse the kids, Ben loved sailing and great winds too, beach staff- Dan, Scott, Giles, Polly, Emma and Clare made the holiday –certainly for amusing our kids..

We usually camp in the UK so this was a great change for us and can’t but help looking at the brochure again for next year!

Thank you to everyone again for making the Turners holiday of a lifetime so great.

Regards
Nicky, Nigel, Sophie ,Ben and Emma
